The Outstanding Difference Between a Compact Temporary and a Full-Size Spare Tire

It is a good idea to know the type of spare tire you have before breaking down on the side of the road. Many vehicles come with either a full-size spare tire or a compact size spare tire. Here are the differences and the safety concerns for each type.

Full-Size Spare Tire

The full-size spare tire matches the vehicles tire size specifications. This spare will not interfere with the vehicles traction, all-wheel drive or APS systems while on the vehicle. These tires do require a full-size storage area in the vehicle.

Compact Spare Tire

Compact spare tires take a small amount of storage space in the vehicle. The safety concerns with this tire are interference with the speedometer, traction and ABS systems. Only use compact spare tires until you can immediately get service.
