When it comes to taking to the streets in something stylish, comfortable, ultra-modern, and fuel-efficient, there are few choices on Earth more appealing than the Toyota Prius, available right here at Lithia Toyota of Medford for your perusal and test-driving convenience. However, one Canadian man found another use for it recently during an ice storm that took our the power in his home town of Thornhill, Ontario.
He turned his Prius into a generator, keeping necessities in his house up and running.
His name is Bob Osemlak and he's a retired Canadian Air Force mechanic and the ice storm took out the power to his house for a full day back on December 21st. Being the man of vision that he is, he prepared for such a situation beforehand by installing an outlet on his furnace. Then he ran a power cord between the furnace and his Prius.
When the lights went out, he kept the heat up by turning on his furnace. Then once the house was warm, he turned the thermostat down and moved power over to the TV, the fridge, and the floor lamp as his needs required. He kept this up for nine hours and his car's power barely went down by one bar. For those who aren't aware, that's equivalent to about one gallon of gas. Talk about efficiency.
Bob has warned others to not try this in their own home, as he has extensive experience as a technician. However, if you'd like to get a Prius of your own, we welcome you to our Medford, OR dealership location today. Take a look, take a drive, and take one home, sure to make your new year even brighter!
