As the kids say these days, Toyota's hybrid sales level is over nine thousand!! In fact, it's over nine million!
As of April 30, 2016, Toyota Motor Corporation has sold 9.014 million hybrid vehicles in more than 90 countries worldwide. It all began with the Toyota Prius, which first hit markets in Japan in 1997. Late last year, the fourth-generation Prius went on sale, showing a sportier, more fun-to-drive side of the classic green-driving powerhouse, while also making use of new lithium-ion battery technology.
The future is looking bright for hybrid models, too. This 9-million unit landmark comes just nine months after reaching 8 million hybrid sales. By 2020, Toyota hopes to sell at least 1.5 million hybrids per year, globally.
According to the automaker, replacing conventional vehicles with Toyota hybrids has saved 6.6 billion gallons of gasoline, and prevented 67 million tons of carbon dioxide from entering the atmosphere.
