Toyota and Yellowstone National Park are helping to inspire future generations of scientists and conservationists with a brand-new campus that will be entirely energy self-sufficient.
The Yellowstone Youth Campus aims for Living Building Challenge Certification with sustainability-oriented features, like:
- Natural lighting and ventilation
- High-performance insulation
- Solar panels that will provide more energy than the campus requires
- Locally-sourced water
- Wastewater treatment and recycling
- Non-toxic and low-VOC building materials
Toyota Motor North America has donated $1 million toward the project, which will house two of Yellowstone's popular summer programs, the Youth Conservation Corps and Expedition Yellowstone.
"The new Yellowstone Youth Campus is an opportunity to support the conservation principles of the National Park Service while reinforcing Toyota's commitment to the environment," explains Toyota Environmental General Manager, Kevin Butt. "We hope this environmental learning center will inspire and empower future leaders in building a more culturally aware, ecologically responsible and regenerative future."
