In this day and age, fuel economy is a pretty big ticket for drivers. You can find highway numbers among the top ranking vehicles from as high as 40 and 50 mpg on the market, but Toyota is not satisfied by staying with the pack. That's why they brought the Prius Plug-in to the Nurburgring in Germany to set a different kind of lap record.

The mission was simple. With a topped out battery and low-rolling-resistance tires, the driver had to get the best possible fuel economy in one circuit around the track's 13-mile run. In the end, the results were better than impressive. The total amount of fuel used was around five tablespoons, and clocked in at an average fuel economy of 698mpg.
