At this year's Chicago Auto Show, The Fast Lane sat down for an interview with the Chief Engineer of the Toyota Tundra and Tacoma, Mike Sweers.

The 2017 Toyota Tacoma offers several levels of performance for the off-roading enthusiast. There's the Sport model, which offers you some basic ability for rough terrain so you can make it up the mountain for a weekend getaway.

The TRD Off-Road package will be the level most casual off-road drivers will want, with plenty of 4WD capability and skid plates. It's ideal for mud-bogging, rock crawling, and more.

The Tacoma TRD Pro puts some heavy emphasis on the "pro."

It has 55 percent larger shocks than the TRD Off-Road package, a hydraulic bump-stop, and different springs, all designed with the purpose of running the suspension hard for off-road desert racing. The bigger shocks reduce the chance of overheating and fading.

The second-generation Tacoma TRD Pro features black 16-inch wheels with Kevlar-reinforced tires.
